Yves Potvin is the current director of the Australian Centre for Geomechanics and since 1998, a professor at the University of Western Australia (UWA).

Olivier obtained his PhD in 2004 from the University Joseph Fourier, Grenoble, France, where he worked on the hydromechanical behaviour of rock joints and contacts between other geomaterials (e.g. compacted bentonite, argillite) in the context of nuclear waste storage. In October 2005, Olivier joined the Geotechnical Research Group of the University of Newcastle, Australia. This group, established by Prof. Scott Sloan, is now known as the Centre for Geotechnical and Materials Modelling. Olivier is currently working on unsaturated soils and expansive clays. One of his research topic deals with foundation remediation using expanding polyurethane resin in expansive soils.

Maurice Dusseault University of Waterloo, Canada

Maurice is a professor of Geological Engineering in the Earth Sciences Department, University of Waterloo. He spent three years as a roughneck and drilling mud technician prior to completing his BSc (1971) and PhD (1977). From 1977 to 1982, he occupied a Research Professor Chair at the University of Alberta funded by the Alberta Oil Sands Technology and Research Authority, and then became Chairman of the Geological Engineering Program at the University of Waterloo for 10 years.

Andrey Eremenko is an expert in the field of geomechanics, physico-technical problems and technologies of mining. He has 200 published scientific works and 80 Authors’ Certificates for Invention, and Russian Federation Patents.

Anna Giacomini The University of Newcastle, Australia

Anna obtained her PhD. in Civil Engineering at the University of Parma, Italy in 2003 (Thesis titled “Geomechanical and hydraulic characterisation of discontinuous rock masses”. From 2002 to 2006 Anna was an Associate Researcher at Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Architecture, University of Parma, Italy. Anna is currently an Associate Researcher of Centre for Geotechnical and Materials Modelling, University of Newcastle, Australia, working with A/Prof. Stephen Fityus and Prof. Scott Sloan. Her research interests are slope stability and rockfall analysis, rock mechanics, mechanical and hydromechanical behaviour of rock joints, piles foundations and Foundations design.

Klaus Gessner The University of Western Australia, Australia

Klaus is a geologist interested in rock deformation and its relation to permeability from the scale of the earth’s curt to the micro-scale. Klaus received his PhD from Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany in 2000. From 2001 to 2004 Klaus worked in CSIRO Exploration and Mining on numerical models of deformation, fluid flow and heat transfer in hydrothermal ore deposits. Klaus teaches at UWA’s School of Earth and Geographical Sciences, and works on the 3D visualisation, analysis, and simulation of deformation structures in rocks. Klaus’ position is co-funded by UWA, CSIRO and the predictive mineral Discovery CRC

Dr Peter Lilly is Director of CSIRO’s Minerals Down Under National Research Flagship. He was formerly Chief of CSIRO’s Division of Exploration & Mining and, immediately prior to this, Professor of Mining Engineering and Director of the Western Australian School of Mines at Curtin University. He sits on the Boards of the Australasian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy Inc (where he was President for 2006) and the Australian Prospectors & Miners Hall of Fame Ltd. He is also a Member of the Australian Government’s Minerals Exploration Advisory Group and a Member of the Western Australian Government’s Mining Industry Advisory Committee. Dr Lilly has held senior technical and management positions in mine operations, project development, mining research, consulting engineering and academia, and has worked on projects located in fifteen countries.
